Your portfolio will steer the interview conversation and should demonstrate your talent and potential as a BFA Costume Design student.
The best way to put together a portfolio is to select 10 to 20 pieces from your work which demonstrate the strength, depth, and range of your theatrical/artistic abilities and exposure. The selection of pieces in your portfolio tells us a great deal about you, so thoughtfully and carefully choose those pieces you think best show your talent and potential for further development.
Costume Design applicants should present a portfolio of design renderings, some of which should be in the paint medium. You should include drawings, paintings, or other evidence of your artistic abilities. Slides or photographs may be presented to augment the portfolio. If you have full costume designs be sure to include examples, however these are not a necessity. You may also include a sample of your sewing ability, though this is not required. We want to see your visual art abilities, your artistic creativity, and your artist’s eye.
