Two weeks. Dozens of world premieres. An immersive festival of new work from the next generation of playwrights.
About the Festival
Wrights of Spring is an annual festival that celebrates new work by the next generation of playwrights and comedy artists. Produced by a team of BFA Theatre Management students, WOS is a collaborative and student-driven festival providing playwriting and comedy arts students an intensive, developmental laboratory and an opportunity to showcase their work in front of an audience.
Since the first festival in 1996, Wrights of Spring has presented works by over 170 playwrights. Over 30 of these works have been subsequently produced at The Theatre School as part of our New Playwrights Series and in our Studio and Lab series. In 2020, our 25th anniversary, Wrights of Spring expanded to include the work of students in our brand new Comedy Arts program.
Wrights of Spring also features an array of special events that celebrate the festival’s spirit of ingenuity, play and community building around original student generated work. Our opening night festivities has featured a Playwrights Slam, special guests and the public reveal of Playwrights Central. The Debutante Ball introduces the voices of BFA I Playwrights and Comedy Artists and recognizes two graduating seniors with the Lawrence Bundschu and Warren Snoddy Endowed Playwriting Prize, and The Interrobang Theatre Project Award. Other events sprinkled throughout the festival range from original comedy to music performance.
