Wrights of Spring

Two weeks. Dozens of world premieres. An immersive festival of new work from the next generation of playwrights.

About the Festival

The Wrights of Spring Festival is an annual celebration of new plays by Theatre School Playwrights.  Held at the end of each May, the two-week festival provides playwriting students an intensive developmental laboratory and showcase for their work. The festival affords them the

experience to refine their work in collaboration with TTS students and faculty from every discipline. Playwrights, actors, directors, managers, dramaturgs and designers work together to fulfill Wrights of Spring’s mission to build a collaborative, school-wide, student-driven community around the Theatre School’s commitment to fostering new plays and playwrights.

The Wrights of Spring Festival is free and open to the public. No reservations for Wrights of Spring events are necessary. Due to COVID-19 and keeping the safety of our community in mind, this year's festival will be presented on a completely online platform. Readings will be brought to you via zoom and podcasts with recordings being available through the end of Spring Quarter on the Wrights of Spring website.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of Wrights of Spring. Since the first Festival in 1996, WOS has presented works by over 170 playwrights. Many of those playwrights have gone on to build impressive careers writing for the stage, television and film. Since 2004, close to 20 works originally presented in WOS have been subsequently produced at The Theatre School.
