Admissions Timeline

The application process begins in the fall of the year before you would enroll, and the application typically opens in August. All required application materials must be received by the application deadline in order for you to be considered for admission. Decisions are typically released in late March/early April.

Application Deadlines:

MFA Acting - The online application and video prescreen is due December 1; prescreens submitted after December 1 will be considered on a space-available basis. Callback auditions take place in January and February. All materials should be submitted by the time you complete the callback.

MFA Arts Leadership - Application & all materials due December 15

MFA Directing - Application & all materials due December 15

How to Apply

Theatre School applicants begin by completing DePaul University's graduate, degree-seeking application online. Please be aware that we admit students for fall entrance only, and listing any other entry term will result in Theatre School programs failing to appear as program options. Once you submit your online application and pay the application fee, you can log back into the application portal to check the status of your application materials.

Admission Requirements By Program

Auditions & Interviews

A video prescreen and callback audition (MFA Acting) or finalist interview (MFA Arts Leadership and MFA Directing) is required for admission to The Theatre School. Finalist interviews are by invitation only, after a thorough review of the student's application materials.

Submitting Application Materials

Your resume and photograph will be uploaded as part of your online application. Transcripts can be unofficial (sent to us by the applicant) and uploaded through the online application or sent to us by email at Official transcripts will be needed upon acceptance to the program.

Letters of recommendation, test scores, and official transcripts must be sent to our office directly by the person/institution that issued them, not the applicant. While we prefer to receive emailed/electronic copies sent to​, hard-copies can be mailed to:
