Auditions & Interviews

The following information applies to Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) applicants only. Students applying to the Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Theatre are not required to complete an audition or interview as part of the admissions process.

Admission to The Theatre School's Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) programs requires either an audition or an interview, depending on your intended major. Before registering for an audition or interview, you must first submit an application to DePaul University and select The Theatre School and your specific intended major.

Audition and interview registration is completed online on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration must be completed by February 1. We encourage you to apply and register early to have the widest selection of available dates and times.

Undergraduate (BFA) Applicants

BFA Theatre Studies & Design/Tech Interviews

Interviews are required for all Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) programs except the BFA in Acting. Interviews are offered from November through mid-February and may be completed either in person in Chicago or virtually via Zoom.

To view available interview dates and times for your intended major, log in to the interview registration page. Before registering for an interview, you must submit your application to DePaul University and all required program-specific application materials. The deadline to register for an interview is February 1.

How do I schedule an interview?
1. Submit your application to DePaul University. Within about 24 hours, you will receive access to the Blue Demon Domain.
2. Upload your major-specific application materials and the interview fee to the Blue Demon Domain. You cannot register for an interview if these items are missing. (Stage Management applicants have additional requirements and must pass a prescreen.) For more information about application materials, please visit our undergraduate admissions page.
3. Log in to our interview registration page and select a date/time for your interview.

BFA Acting Prescreen and Callback Audition

The BFA in Acting audition process consists of two steps: a video prescreen and a live group callback audition.

Video prescreen submissions are due by December 1. Applicants who successfully pass the prescreen will be invited to register for a callback audition, which takes place in January and February.

Callback auditions are offered in person in Chicago, New York, and Los Angeles, as well as virtually via Zoom. You must successfully complete the video prescreen before you are eligible to register for a callback audition.

How do I audition?
1. Submit an online application to DePaul University, selecting BFA Acting as your intended major. This is due by December 1; it typically takes 24 hours for your application to reach us and for you to gain access to The Blue Demon Domain for step 2. Please plan accordingly.

2. Upload your audition fee, photograph, and prescreen video to the Blue Demon Domain. These items are due December 1.

3. It takes about two weeks for us to review your prescreen materials and notify you by email of your callback decision. If you have passed the prescreen, you will be emailed a link to the callback registration page. Select whichever date/time works best for you and we'll see you at your callback!
