Emilio Williams


Emilio Williams is a bilingual (Spanish/English) award-winning writer and educator. In 2023, Teatro Vista produced the world-premiere of his show ¡Bernarda!, co-presented with Steppenwolf at their 1700 Theater. Beyond Chicago, his critically acclaimed plays have been seen in New York, Los Angeles, Washington, D.C., and San Antonio, T.X., as well as in Argentina, Estonia, France, Ireland, Mexico, Spain, and the United Kingdom. 

His experimental queer essays have appeared most recently in The Journal of Black Mountain College Studies, Translatica Journal, Brevity Magazine, Imagined Theatres, and the anthology Beyond Queer Words 2021.

In addition to teaching at The Theatre School, he has taught at several other U.S. universities, including Columbia College Chicago, The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and Georgia State University. He has been a guest artist at the University of Portland, Mary Washington University, and the University of Wisconsin-Madison.​

He holds a BA in Film and Video and an MFA in Writing. He is a resident playwright at Chicago Dramatists.
