Flora Bare is a Chicago-based performer, director, educator, and
creator for theater and circus. Her particular focus is on highly physical
and daring storytelling through the universal language of the body.
She has a particular interest in the devised, collaborative process and
a love for the immersive performance experience.
Flora is a former USA National Champion and nine-time All-American
collegiate gymnast from the University of California, Davis. She
received her MFA from the London International School of Performing
Arts in Lecoq-based physical theater and has lived, trained, and been
a theater maker in California, New York, Italy, Uruguay, and London.
She has performed as an actor for The Royal Opera House and was
the dance captain and aerialist for the 2012 Olympic Festival with the
New York Company STREB. Flora was a tumbling and conditioning
instructor at The National Center for Circus Arts in London and is an
award-winning choreographer for Northern California Women’s
Gymnastics Association.
Flora is is a tumbling instructor for the professional training program at
The Actors Gymnasium and has developed a course called
“Acrobatics for the Actor”. Flora has been an active collaborator with
Theater Unspeakable and Silent Theatre since moving to Chicago in
2015. She was a Co-Mission resident in 2019 for Links Hall and is
continuously developing her own work for Bare Theater.
