​In his 30 years as a freelance designer, Michael has designed the lighting for more than 300 productions throughout the United States. He has also had the opportunity to travel several productions outside of the US. His work has been honored several times including the Joseph Jefferson Award, the Jeff Citation, After Dark and the Drama-Logue awards. In addition to theatrical design, Michael also does lighting for concerts, events and corporate shows. His company, Reeder & Rourke Lighting Design Unlimited, is based out of Chicago. They specialize in theatre and concert lighting design and consultation. Michael is a member of the United Scenic Artists (Lighting Design) Local 829 and of the U.S. Institute for Theatre Technology.​​​
