Main Content
After completing her college degree in 1987, Laura began
working as a costumer for regional theatres. She quickly discovered her
true loves within the costume field, millinery, dyeing and costume
crafts. At theatres including The Old Globe in San Diego, The La Jolla
Playhouse and The Denver Center, she honed her skills in these
disciplines. Laura moved to Chicago in 1990 and continues her career as a
freelance milliner and costume craftsperson. She has done projects for
companies including The Chicago Shakespeare Theatre, Court Theatre and
The Lyric Opera. Her work has appeared in major motion pictures
including My Best Friends Wedding and A League Of Their Own. She has
also completed industrial projects for clients including Quaker Oats and
General Mills. Additionally, Laura has formed her own millinery company
to realize her designs for non-fictional human beings, Laura Whitlock
Millinery. She is a past-president and founding member of The Millinery
Arts Alliance, Chicago's only organization of professional milliners. As
part of the MAA, Laura received Victoria Magazine's 2002 Entrepreneur
of the Year award.
