Alphonsine claims to have seen visions of the Virgin Mary and is ostracized in the all-girls’ Catholic school she attends…until others confirm seeing the same visions that foretell the genocide in Rwanda. Based on true and tragic events, Our Lady of Kibeho is a story of faith and everyday miracles that explores the questions of religion and belief.

The production team includes scenic design by Jack Hagen, costume design by Brett Rose, lighting design by Scott Tobin, sound design by Gabriela Cordovi Rodriguez, technical direction by Scott Cavallo, dramaturgy by Isabelle Cheng, and stage management by Hannah Smith. ​​

Special Events:

Post-show discussions will follow the performances on 11/3 and 11/8.  The performance on 11/7 will be interpreted in American Sign Language.  The performance on 11/10 will be audio-described. 

In partnership with The Center for Black Diaspora, The Theatre School will host a lecture on 11/5 titled "Healing in Pre and Post Genocide Burundi and Rwanda: The Role of Ubuntu and More Agency" led by Jeanine Ntihiragez, PhD.  The lecture will be held in The Theatre School lobby from 5:30 - 7:30 PM.

If you require wheelchair accessible and/or companion seating, or have any other hearing or vision needs, please let us know when you reserve your tickets so that we can make sure you visit to our theatre is an excellent one. Discounted tickets are available for patrons with disabilities, and their guests.

Performances Interpreted in American Sign Language & Assisted Listening Devices:

We offer American Sign Language interpretation presented by theatrically trained certified interpreters. Leading up to an interpreted performance, interpreters see the play multiple times, practice with recordings, and determine sign names for the characters in the play. We are happy to provide a script in advance to audience members who request this service. Contact the box office at theatreboxoffice@depaul.edu to request a script. We also offer ListenUp! personal listening devices for each performance. These assistive listening devices are available free of charge to patrons upon request.

Audio Description Services:

The performance of Our Lady of Kibeho on 11/10 at 2:00 PM will include a live audio-description of the visual and physical events on-stage for patrons who are blind or have low vision. We also invite you to join us that day for a pre-performance program with a touch tour, which begins at 12:30 PM in the Watts Theatre lobby. The touch tour program will include information about the characters and design choices that add to the world of the play. Patrons who are participating in the audio-described event may also request the playbill in Braille, large print, and audio formats.
