Louis has directed nearly sixty plays, among them are A View from the Bridge, The Manchurian Candidate, A Streetcar Named Desire, All My Sons, Rocket to the Moon, Stalag 17, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? and Judgement at Nuremberg. He is a 11-time Joseph Jefferson nominee and has received six Jeff Citations for directing and one for scenic design. He is an Associate Artist at TimeLine Theatre where he has directed numerous productions including Pravda, It’s All True (Jeff nomination for Direction), Awake and Sing! (Jeff Citation for Direction) and Copenhagen. He has worked with Goodman Theatre, Steppenwolf Theatre Company, American Theatre Company and Shattered Globe Theatre Company, among others and received his M.F.A. in Directing from The Theatre School at DePaul University.​
